Ezekiel – Chapter 37

  • So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army. Ezekiel 37:10 – A result of us following the commands of God can be people who were once dead receiving life. In our passage Ezekiel spoke as God instructed Him to do and the result was out of dry bones in a valley life being breathed into them all. God has instructed us to to speak over the lost around us, to speak His words of life and love to them. What can happen as a result is they hear, believe, and accept the life God is offering. Yet what if we refuse to speak? Speak to the people around you about the life God can give them. Maybe as a result they’ll come to find it. • Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.” Ezekiel 37:5-6 – Israel was not in a good place at this time. They were in rebellion to the Lord and scattered among the nations because of their sinfulness. Any hope of a bright future was gone for them and their hearts ached because of the scattering of their people. Now the Lord speaks into that dry, brittle, hopeless situation. He shared that He will bring life back into these dry bones. He’ll gather the pieces of His people from all over, put them back together, breathe His spirit of life into them once more, and abide with them. Their labels before were separated, dry, and dead. Now God speaks and says they will be together, made anew, and alive through Him. This promise is carried into our story as well because of Jesus. We too may be in a dry, brittle, hopeless spot in our story. We may see our situation as one that can never change and we are going to die like this. Jesus is now speaking into that same situation saying He can bring life to where we only see death. Our God is able to take what is dry and hopeless and bring life into it. With our God, hopeless doesn’t have to be your story. Reach out if you are in a dry season and need prayer. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2378
