Ezekiel – Chapter 35

  • And you magnified yourselves against me with your mouth, and multiplied your words against me; I heard it. Ezekiel 35:13 – Read that last phrase again, “I hear it.” That’s God speaking to the people saying when you trashed me and spoke against me, your words were heard by me. That’s the same story with us, that God hears us when we speak against Him. Now our voice may not be saying the same sort of things against God as the people in the passage were, but we can still speak against Him. By giving ourself the praise for our success, by not speaking the life we can into people’s life, to even worshipping with a non-present heart. Just know while God hears your praise He hears everything else too. Let then what comes out of us be filled with what gives God glory. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1099
  • “Because you said, ‘These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will take possession of them’—although the Lord was there—11 therefore, as I live, declares the Lord God, I will deal with you according to the anger and envy that you showed because of your hatred against them. And I will make myself known among them, when I judge you. Ezekiel 35:10-11 – The Lord is speaking now to the people of Edom. When Israel and Judah (the two nations/countries talked about in the beginning of our passage) were experiencing their judgment from the Lord, we see a posture of excitement come over the nation of Edom at this sight. Edom saw Israel/Judah’s suffering as a means of gain for them. They looked upon the pain of God’s people as a blessing for them and a way to increase their wealth. This posture of Edom toward God’s peoples suffering was something God didn’t approve of. As a result we are now seeing the judgment on Edom for their actions. As followers of God today, we too will have people who will rejoice at our suffering. When we struggle there will be people who will look upon our story and rejoice. Know today the Lord sees when that happens and learn from our passage that He doesn’t approval of such an attitude towards His people. Now, this doesn’t mean we can wish for those who rejoice at our pain to experience their own judgement and pain, that’s just beginning a nasty cycle of anger and hate. We can though trust God to deal with those who come against us allowing us to not give headspace to that sort of thing. Yes, we’ll have those who laugh, mock, and even rejoice at our suffering. There we need to trust the Lord to take care of all that so we can remain focused on the important things like the great commission. Our world isn’t always going to be kind to those who follow Jesus, thankfully we have Jesus in our times of need. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2376
