Ezekiel – Chapter 33

  • Though I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, yet if he trusts in his righteousness and does injustice, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered, but in his injustice that he has done he shall die. Ezekiel33:13 – Whatever righteousness we think we have on account of our righteous way of living doesn’t count for anything when sin gets brought into the mix. The song “Lord, I Need You” has a line at the end of its chorus that says, “my one defense, my righteous, O God how I need You.” See our righteousness apart from God means nothing. It’s the righteousness that Jesus gives us that counts for everything. So don’t rely on your goodness to get you anywhere with God. It’s only through Jesus that we can find peace with God and live. • And you, son of man, say to your people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him when he transgresses, and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall by it when he turns from his wickedness, and the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness when he sins. Ezekiel 33:12 – Earlier in our study of Ezekiel we saw God questioning why the people of Israel were declaring God unjust in the ways He handles our sinfulness. How did God handle sin then? As we see from our passage, if you had a person who trusted in his own righteousness to save him, yet sinned, then all that righteousness wouldn’t save him from his sin. Yet, if you had a sinner who chose to turn from his sinfulness, then none of his sin would be held against him and hold him back from life. Put more plainly, trusting in ourselves to save us can’t save us from our sin, but even the worst of sinners when they turn to find forgiveness of their sins can be saved. Such was the message of Ezekiel, and such it the message today. No good deeds we do will rack up an account of righteousness to cover the cost of our sin. Only Jesus can save us from our sin. And even if the list of your sin is miles longs, one choice to repent and following Jesus can wipe that clean. Salvation is available to you today through Jesus. If you want to know more, reach out. If you have already found that salvation for your story, find someone today to share this message of life with. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2374
