Ezekiel – Chapter 26

  • Son of man, because Tyre said concerning Jerusalem, ‘Aha, the gate of the peoples is broken; it has swung open to me. I shall be replenished, now that she is laid waste,’ Ezekiel 26:2 – Tyre’s mistake was celebrating the demise of Jerusalem because it meant selfish gain for itself. We should never praise the fact that someone is being broken for their sinfulness, even if their demise means our gain. We’ve been granted so much through the grace of Jesus and if we didn’t have that we’d be in the same boat, if not worse, than them. The only reason we aren’t facing punishment like that is because of Jesus. Celebrate rather when someone finds God’s grace over their mistakes, not His wrath. Make sure you are part of the ones telling them that grace is available, even to the ones who’s failure would mean your success. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1090
  • Son of man, because Tyre said concerning Jerusalem, ‘Aha, the gate of the peoples is broken; it has swung open to me. I shall be replenished, now that she is laid waste,’ therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and will bring up many nations against you, as the sea brings up its waves. Ezekiel 26:2-3 – In the years of King David and Solomon, Tyre and Jerusalem were on good terms, but over the years that relationship was stretched to the point of what we see in our passage. Tyre, when made aware of Jerusalem’s coming destruction, rejoiced instead of reaching out to offer aid. Tyre said Jerusalem’s downfall would only be a benefit to them. Cleary, as we read the rest of the chapter, God did not care for such a response from Tyre concerning His people. How then do we respond when we hear about a fellow believer’s troubles? Do we reach out to offer aid? How out if that fellow believer is someone you have tension or a grudge with? When you hear about their downfall, is there even a slight hint of rejoicing that they got what’s coming to them? I for sure can say I’ve found myself there before, yet what we see is this isn’t the heart God wants followers of His to have. When we hear of someone’s trouble, even if they are someone we have tension with and don’t like, we should offer a loving hand of help. For when we were enemies of God, Jesus died for us when we were in need. Let’s be better about following the example of Jesus of not rejoicing over people’s downfall but aiding in their recovery.
