Ezekiel – Chapter 20

  • But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made myself known to them in bringing them out of the land of Egypt. Ezekiel20:9 – Here God is recounting the times He recused and blessed His people and they in return responded with idol worship and sinfulness. Here God is reminding us that His name will remain holy and He will receive His glory due, even if those who are meant to give it to Him aren’t. Let that not be said of us. That we aren’t giving God the glory we can give Him and aren’t keeping His name holy. God did so much for His people back then and He has done all the more for us today.  Join in with your life, words, and actions today in giving God glory. How? Follow His commands and love the person in front of you. All glory be to you God! I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1084
  • As for you, O house of Israel, thus says the Lord God: Go serve every one of you his idols, now and hereafter, if you will not listen to me; but my holy name you shall no more profane with your gifts and your idols. Ezekiel 20:39 – A very interesting statement to be made from the Lord isn’t it? Go serve your idols! Isn’t that the exact opposite of what we know God to be commanding everywhere else in scripture? What we see in the fullness of the chapter is how over and over God made His ways known to the people yet the people over and over rejected His ways. Where Israel is at now with worship is they have embraced fully the worship of their idols, yet they still are carrying around the name of “God’s people.” They are worshipping idols and trying to still worship God, which is something that cannot be done. If then Israel would not make the change to stop their idol worship, God is telling them to go after fully these idols and stop this half in/half out worship of Him. God is longing for a people that will give themselves fully over to worship of Him. That was God’s desires in the times of scripture and that’s God’s desire today. Something then we must be careful of is our own half in/half out worship of God. Are we carrying the name of “Jesus Follower” yet also following after something else other than Jesus? God would rather you just chose one and go after it fully rather than disgrace His name by this wishy-washy faith life. Of course, His passion is for you to choose Him, but He does allow us this choice. If then you are at this point of choosing which to go after, allow yourself to see the end result of God’s people in Ezekiel’s day for their choice of not pursuing God. Loss, separation, captivity, and death. Life and peace though can be found in Jesus. The choice is simple. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2361
