Ezekiel – Chapter 2

  • The descendants also are impudent and stubborn: I send you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ And whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are a rebellious house) they will know that a prophet has been among them. Ezekiel 2:4-5 – God isn’t always going to send you on easy tasks to willing and open people. As with Ezekiel, his calling was to a stubborn and rebellious people that God said may not even listen to him. What we must remember is that God knows these people and is fully aware of their hearts. If of all the people in the world He chose you to show His love to them, He must know can do it through Him. Rest in that when God calls you to a place you don’t feel qualified for. If He called you there, He knows your needs and He’ll make sure you are sustained there. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1066
  • But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. Be not rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you. Ezekiel 2:8 – God is calling Ezekiel into His mission to share His word to the nation of Israel. God commands Ezekiel to open wide his mouth and eat, to take in whatever God lays before him. He was to take in the word of the Lord, and despite the message being a difficult one to share, Ezekiel was told to share. We also can see from the wording of our passage that Ezekiel was to be different than the rest of the house of Israel. They had been rebellious to God, not taking in His word and following His ways, but Ezekiel was to be different than that. Note that the context and command will be quite different for us, but what we do have happen here for Ezekiel is much like what God is doing with us today. God is calling us to be different than the world and even different than the lukewarm Christians around us. God has given to us His message of salvation and given us the great commission. Will the people listen to our message or will they refuse to listen to us? As with Ezekiel, we are to remain sharing either way. We too have a rebellious to God world around us that needs to hear about His grace, love, and way of life. We too who follow Jesus now have the Spirit within us, just like we see happen for Ezekiel in verse 1. We too have taken in God’s word and now it’s time to share.
