- And above the expanse over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness with a human appearance. Ezekiel 1:26 – God is over what’s over what’s over us. We are beginning a new journey through the book of Ezekiel for a bit and it’s important to note what God wants us to understand right in chapter one. That God is over all. What’s over us, He’s over that. No matter how many layers up you get, He’s always on top and always in control. This is something to remember especially when you are in a difficult season like Ezekiel was being exiled from his land. So whatever season you’re in know God is over it. He’s over your enemies and He’s also over you. Trust Him with the things you can’t handle and the things He’s given you to handle, do so as He commands. Remember God is sovereign which means He’s over all. Live out fearlessly your mission as a result and live humbly before the One that’s over you. - Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking. Ezekiel 1:28 – We are stepping into a new book today and it’s going to be one that’s going to take more of a study to fully grasp what’s all happening. We have unique imagery being given already in chapter 1 that is so foreign to us. Creatures with four faces and wheels within a wheel, and lots of movement. A commentary I read over this helped me form a mental picture of what’s happening. Think of a chariot. We have four powerful creatures leading the way and wheels alongside them. Yet a moving chariot is rarely empty, and this one sure isn’t. It is filled with the glory of the Lord, strong and mighty. This chapter is to reveal the certain judgement of God on the people of Ezekiel’s day and it clearly shows the massive, overwhelming power of God. Just the glory of the Lord put this prophet and priest on the ground facedown. When we hear and see our world be so rebellious to God, proclaiming their liberty from Him and their rejection of Him as their Lord, see from a chapter like this that when God says one day every knee will bow…every knee is going to bow to the Lord when His glory is revealed in power like this. Take heart today if you are a follower of Jesus yet are being burdened by the weight of the non-believing world around you. While their voice is powerful and their hand is heavy on you today, God’s voice is louder than thunder and His hands are mightier than the enemy’s. Your God is strong and mighty and is worthy of your following. Someday all will acknowledge this to be true. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2342
