- And the fish in the Nile died, and the Nile stank, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. There was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. 22 But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts. So Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said. Exodus 7:21-22 – The first plague against Egypt is found here in our passage, the Lord turned the waters of the Nile and other waters all over Egypt into blood. Something though we’re going to see with this plague and a few of the next ones is what we see unfold in verse 22. The magicians of Egypt replicated the plague with their secret arts. Now some may claim they did this with illusions and actually didn’t turn water to blood, but I believe we are seeing Satan working overtime with his powers to imitate the Lord’s work to keep the Egyptians from turning to the Lord. Let us not forget that Satan too has power in this world. Yet see with this a couple truths about his power. First, he didn’t use his power to help the Egyptians out of their suffering, in fact he just created more blood for them to deal with. Satan has no desire to alleviate our suffering, all he cares is that we don’t turn to the Lord who can. Yet even if Satan wanted to turn the blood back into water for the Egyptians, he couldn’t, and there we see our second truth about Satan’s power. He can’t undo what God has done. Satan can imitate and distract, but he holds no power against the Lord. He can’t stop what God has set in motion, and He can’t reverse what God has done. While we certainly will see the enemy’s handiwork within our lives just as Moses was seeing in this chapter, remember who is truly in power and who’s the One seated on the throne of Heaven. - Exodus 7 Daily DEVO Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the magicians of Egypt, also did the same by their secret arts. For each man cast down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. Exodus 7:11-12 – Our enemy loves to imitate God’s power. If he can begin to make you believe he has the same power as God, then maybe you’ll step away from God and put your trust in him instead. What we see though is what happens when God’s power faces up against our enemy’s power. The enemy gets swallowed up as nothing. Remember our enemy loves to lie and deceive with the purpose of keeping you from God. While he may be able to put on a good show, our God has all the power and one day will show that power to our enemy once and for all. Make sure you’re trusting in the real thing and not some cheap imitation. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 801
- Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh. Exodus7:7 – Yesterday during Sunday School I shared with our youth how their teenage-age doesn’t disqualify them from being used by God. Here we see Aaron and Moses in their eighties being deeply used by God and their work was just beginning. Scripture is clear that age isn’t something that holds God back from using you for His purposes. 5 years old, 50, 16, 160…even if you’re already dead God can use you. So it’s not age that keeps us from being used by God, so what is? It’s the question of at what age are you going to commit to being used by God? Whatever age you are reading this and whatever season of life you are in, have you chosen to say yes to the work God has called you to? God has set before you the task to point people to Him and to tell people around you of His love for them. Don’t let your age make you believe you’re unusable to God for that task, you’re the perfect age. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1890
