- Say therefore to the people of Israel, ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment.’ Exodus 6:6 – Where we left Moses in the previous chapter was in a space of real discouragement. Moses boldly came before the king of Egypt, demanded that he let his slave labor force go free, and not surprisingly it didn’t go well. While the Lord did make it clear beforehand that this wouldn’t be an easy journey and that this process wasn’t going to be immediate, Moses still found himself in a place of despair seeing the how things were unfolding for this mission. God though, as always, knew exactly what to say. The Lord made it clear to Moses who was the one in control and the one that was going to make the impossible happen. This mission’s success didn’t rely on Moses’ speaking ability or power, it relied solely on the Lord, something we see affirmed with all the “I will” statements in these verses. God voiced He was the one that would redeem, deliver, bring out of slavery, and bring into blessing. Moses wasn’t the plan, he was simply the one God used to share God’s plan with God’s people. While sometimes we can find ourselves believing we’re the “plan,” we’re not. We aren’t the ones to save our family, or change our friend, or heal our parent, or redeem the world. Only God can do that. While the mission at times can seem overwhelming, and even defeating, remember who the plan is centered around and who it’s not center around. - Exodus 6 Daily DEVO But the Lord said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for with a strong hand he will send them out, and with a strong hand he will drive them out of his land.” Exodus 6:1 – Men have their ideas. Our enemy has his devious plans. We even have our own excuses. What we see here though in this passage is that none of those things will stop God from carrying out His will of freeing His people. When in Romans it says nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God, this is what’s its meaning. Nothing will ever be able to stop God from pouring His love and grace on those who follow Him. Maybe today we just need a reminder of how big and powerful our God is. If God could handle the Egyptians and all their power as nothing, the things enslaving us are no match for God. God truly is bigger than the bogeyman. - On the day when the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, the Lord said to Moses, “I am the Lord; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say to you.” But Moses said to the Lord, “Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips. How will Pharaoh listen to me?” Exodus 6:28-30 – On the day when the Lord gives you your mission, will their be a “but Moses” moment? In our passage God gave the clear command to Moses on what to do, yet scripture shows us Moses had a “but Moses” moment. God gave Moses clear directions…but Moses had questions and fears. God gave His command, but Moses doubted its success. Is this happening with you when it comes to our mission of sharing the Gospel? God gives us a command, but we respond with fear, doubt, and questions. Know God isn’t upset at us for having any of that, He understand things like fear and questions are going to arise within us. What He is looking for is followers that will follow Him despite all those things. Ones that will trust His understanding of things and trust His power. So what’s your biggest question, fear, or worry about stepping into your mission to share the Gospel with others? Whatever it is, know your loving, Heavenly Father can take care of it.
