Exodus – Chapter 40

  • Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Exodus 40:34 – Everything was completed. From the Ark to the coverings of the Tabernacle to the bases for the poles to even the linen undergarments, all had been created just as the Lord had commanded Moses to do. Now with everything finished it was time to put everything together and set up the tent of meeting for the first time. Once done we see a beautiful thing happen, the cloud that had been with them this entire year since they came out of Egypt settled on the tent and God’s glory filled the Tabernacle. Now this very expensive tent when from just another tent amongst the people to the place where man could meet with God. Let’s not think this happened because God was obligated to come down like this. Moses and the people’s actions didn’t force God to come be with them like this and earn them this sort of relationship with the Lord. It though did show their heart desired such a closeness with the Lord and the Lord honored that. Our holy actions today don’t earn us God’s presence or blessings either. Jesus is not in obligated to be with us because we’ve gone to church or read our Bible today. Yet when we do the things He has commanded us to do, it is a display from us that we desire a close relationship with Him and that is something He is looking for from us. So yes, pray, read your Bible, serve, show kindness, forgive, and go to church. Yet know such things aren’t earning you God’s favor. They are our way of showing the Lord we want to obey Him and we desire His closeness within our life. And when God knows He is welcomed in a life, He draws near. • Exodus 40 Daily DEVO And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Exodus 40:35 – He couldn’t go in anymore. Moses would have been overseeing the construction of this all and the setting it all up. He would have most likely been in the room to make sure things were set up like they should have been. Yet when the glory of the Lord filled the room no longer could he go in. This shows that what’s holy and what should be worshipped is not the ark or the tent but the God who filled the room with His glory. We have to keep this in mind as we do church ourselves. Our worship and devotion shouldn’t go to anything in the church or even the church itself. No special picture on the wall or person behind the pulpit should get our worship. Let’s make sure God has our worship and is the one thing in the church we put our whole-hearted devotion to. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 834

  • Then you shall take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and consecrate it and all its furniture, so that it may become holy. Exodus 40:9 – God is about taking what’s unholy and making it holy. It’s odd to think about the tabernacle of the Old Testament being unholy. Like the ark of the covenant, the altar, even the whole tent itself being unholy. Yet, at one time, all of this was unholy. But God made a way for these unholy items to be made most holy for Him. God has also made a way for even the most unholy of people to be made most holy for Himself. There is not a single person alive today that Jesus’ sacrificial blood can’t make holy. Yes, that means your wayward child God is able to forgive all their sin and make holy. Yes, that family member of yours who has pushed God away their whole life God is able to make holy unto Him. Every sin, every hurt, every wrong God is able to cover, restore, and make holy. Don’t lose hope then concerning your loved one who has chosen a path of unholiness. Keep reflecting the love and grace of Jesus onto them. Until they take their last breath they can turn to follow Jesus and He is powerful enough to cover every wrong in their story. Pray for them, love them hard, serve them when you can, and speak well of Jesus in their presence. Holiness is still available for them. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1923
