Exodus – Chapter 38

  • He made the basin of bronze and its stand of bronze, from the mirrors of the ministering women who ministered in the entrance of the tent of meeting. Exodus 38:8 – The piece being constructed in our verse was the bronze basin, think a large wash bowl that the priests would wash their hands and feet in before coming into the Tabernacle to do their work. While we aren’t given any details around these women, apparently there was a group of ladies whose role was to stay around the entrance of the tent of meeting and serve. Why they were there and all the ways they served, we don’t know, but we do know one way they served from this verse. These ladies gave their polished bronze mirrors they would use in their homes over to the Lord to be used in the making of the bronze basin. This may have been for them a small sacrifice or something precious, but it does reveal for us a powerful truth. The more we live in service to the Lord the less we need the ways of the world to show us who we are. These ladies were coming close to the tent of meeting, where Moses and God met to talk as one friend talks to another. As they continued to come close and continued to serve, the more they realized the little need they had for these bronze mirrors. God was going to define who they were. In life, as we drift further away from the Lord, we begin to allow the world to shape how we see ourselves and dictate our life. We use the world’s “mirrors” to tell us who we are when that role should belong to God. Find yourself drawing nearing to the Lord and listening to what He has to say about you. The more you let God’s word be the mirror you used to see yourself through the less you’ll need the world’s mirrors within your life. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3182

  • Exodus 38 Daily DEVO – All the gold that was used for the work, in all the construction of the sanctuary, the gold from the offering, was twenty-nine talents and 730 shekels, by the shekel of the sanctuary. Exodus38:24 – We see a list here in this passage of all the metals and other items used to create all that God directed them to make. When you calculate up all that was required it is a staggering amount and expensive is putting it gently. What God asked of them required a lot to be given and what God has asked of you requires a lot. In fact it requires everything from you. But pause to remember all He’s given to you and where all you have came from. God’s not asking for anything He first hasn’t provided and hasn’t set the example first by giving to you. As opportunities arise to give more of yourself to God remember He gave all of Himself to you first. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 832

  • And he made all the utensils of the altar, the pots, the shovels, the basins, the forks, and the fire pans. He made all its utensils of bronze. Exodus 38:3 – So the one making all the essential structures like the ark and the altars also took time to make the small utensils that were to be used for the workings of the sacrifices and worship of God. They knew there were some much needed tools that must be also made and brought in for worship to happen like it needed to. Redirecting this now onto us, have you chosen to make for yourself the needed tools to worship God well? What do I mean by that? Well you chose whether you’re going to bring in a distracted mind or an focused mind into worship. You choose to be a cheerful or reluctant giver. You can bring in a hard heart or an open one. Yes, these tools are quite different than the shovels and forks being spoken of in our passage, but they all serve an essential purpose to the worship of God. Without them, our worship and time with Him won’t be all that it could be and possibly even dishonoring to Him. What then is a tool you need to “make” in order to deeply worship God like He is inviting us to? I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1921
