- All the men and women, the people of Israel, whose heart moved them to bring anything for the work that the Lord had commanded by Moses to be done brought it as a freewill offering to the Lord. Exodus 35:29 – One of the frustrations that can arise in ministry for pastors is when you see a work that needs to be done within the church, yet you only get a portion of the congregation having any sort of heart for it. Maybe the work that needs to be done is something simple, like an event to love on the community, but maybe its something far greater like accomplishing the great commission. It can just be hard seeing only a portion of the body having a heart for what the Lord is calling the whole body to do. What we see in our passage is much the same situation unfolding. What we learn was the ones who brought offerings and were willing to serve were the ones whose hearts moved within them to do so. Meaning there were others, with skill and time and supplies, that must have chosen not to give and lean into this work. While it can be easy for us to camp out on the frustrations and disappointment of this, let us remember a couple beautiful things. First, many did come to serve and offer what they had to the work, which is beautiful. Second, the work still got done, showing that its not about the amount of people that show up, it about simply saying yes to the Lord and He’ll get the job done with those who are giving Him a faithful yes. Do not be discouraged by the lack of buy in from some in the body to what God is doing. Pray for them and set the example for them, but know the good work of the Lord isn’t going to be stopped because of hearts like theirs. Praise the Lord for the hearts that do lean in and praise the Lord that we serve a God that can take a small offering from us and make provisions for thousands from it. - Exodus 35 Daily DEVO Let every skillful craftsman among you come and make all that the Lord has commanded Exodus 35:10 – We see in the following verses a full list of all the things they needed to make that the Lord commanded to be made. Yet what we see right after those verses is the people bringing in the supplies to do it. So what did God do for His people? He gave them clear commands on what to do, He made sure they had all the supplies needed to get it done, and made sure they had the skill sets to accomplish it perfectly as well. At first glance it can seem like God is overwhelming them with things to do, but when you look closer God is making sure everything they could possibly need is provided. God isn’t setting us up for failure, He’s provided all we need for success. Yes, our task of giving our entire life over to God and sharing His love with everyone we can is a lot, yet He has provided all we need to do our task just like He did for the people in our passage. God desires you to succeed and not fail. He wants to see you victorious in your pursuits for if our heart is His our pursuits are His pursuits. So as you look over the task you been given by God to do in this life, also look at how He has fully provided what you need for success in it. - And he has inspired him to teach, both him and Oholiab the son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan. Exodus35:34 – Today, I doubt you thought too much about Bezalel in the Bible. He though sounds like a pretty impressive man. God had given him special talent with art of all mediums. Yet what’s so special about Bezalel was that God filled him with a heart to teach others what he knew. He had such gifts and skill yet chose to share his knowledge with others so they could serve God more fully. This heart is one we should seek to have as well. Look at your life and see the special gifts and skills God has given you. See the unique ways He has gifted you to serve Him well. Now, how could you teach someone else what you know? Yes, it can be tempting to keep that knowledge to ourselves so we can also keep the spotlight only on us. Yet when we share and teach others, it moves the spotlight off of us, even off of them, and onto where it needs to be…Jesus. Teach then however you can so others can serve Jesus more fully and Jesus can be glorified. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1918
