- And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew. Exodus 2:24-25 – In our chapter we get introduced to the man God would use to save His people Israel from their captures, Moses. We see much of the first 80 years of Moses’ life within this single chapter, so you can imagine there is a lot of information shared. Yet where we left off was Moses settling down into a life far from the life he was living. He marries, had a child, and begins a life in Midian. While we get a small snapshot during his time in Egypt that he didn’t agree with how the Egyptians were treating his people and he was willing to do something about it, the image we are getting now of Moses is one who has Egypt, and the slavery of his people, far behind him. While it may have been a concern within Moses’ past, it wasn’t something he was worried about now. Yet, while Moses may have chosen to put the slavery of Israel behind him, we see from our scripture that Lord didn’t. God was still close enough to the Israelites to hear their groaning and cries. God never forgot His promises He made to Israel’s forefathers. God saw the persecution His people were facing and knew exactly what to do. Let us remember that while in this life people may leave us and our struggles behind them, never thinking twice about us again, that this isn’t how the Lord operates. When people leave, He stays. When people drown us out, He listens. When we feel no one sees our pain, He sees. When it seems like know one understands our situation and hurt, God knows. God never leaves, never forsakes, and never leaves us without hope. I love you, but Jesus loves you more than – Mac – Daily DEVO 3146
- Exodus 2 Daily DEVO And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. Exodus 2:9 – Moses’ mom entrusted her baby with God and how did God handle it? Not only returning to her Moses but also having the very enemy, the Egyptians, paying Moses’ mom to help raise the child. As followers of God we must remember that when we give to God He will never be out-given. We can trust God with the most valuable of things in our life and know He will never leave us without. What then have you be afraid to let go and trust God with? Wouldn’t it be amazing if God blessed your situation like He did for Moses’ mom? Just remember the blessing comes after our willingness to trust Him first. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 796
- One day, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his people and looked on their burdens, and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people. Exodus 2:11 – Just because you are surrounded by a people, that doesn’t means they have to be your people. Here Moses had spent years living with the Egyptians, yet when it talks about his people it isn’t speaking of the Egyptians but the Hebrews. How does all this connect with us? Just because you are surrounded by people who gossip doesn’t mean you have to be a part of that group. Just because you exist in a group that is lazy doesn’t mean you have to be. Just because the people around you choose sin over following Jesus doesn’t mean that has to be your story. You can be around a people and not be a part of them doing what they do. Be in the world, but not of it. We are called to be around people and with people who aren’t following Jesus, we just need to be careful we don’t become as they are. Be the most loving person they have ever seen and speak well of Jesus any chance you get. Be in their story and choose to remain in a different lifestyle than they choose to be in.
