- “…and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.” Exodus 10:2 – We are coming to a close soon on the long list of horrible plagues the Lord sent on the land and people of Egypt. Now of course on the surface level, we know these plagues came to push Pharaoh to his breaking point to where he’d finally send the people of Israel out of their slavery. Here though in our verse we see another special reason why the Lord did what He did. It was so the Israelites had a story to tell. The Lord was going to demonstrate His greatness and sovereignty over all the false gods of this world. He wanted His people to know He was God and nothing else could ever outdo Him. Once His people witnessed this for themselves, God’s desire was for them to tell of His greatness to their children, and their children’s children for generations to come. The story of His mighty power was going to save the Israelites this day and be a story to show God’s people He can save them in all days to come. God is going to be moving as well in our story. While such moves are for our help and blessing today, God also wants us to be sharers of His mighty works to others as well. Let others get the blessing of seeing the might and goodness of God like you have. As richly as the work of God has changed your life, know you’re sharing with others of what God has done for you can impact their life in grand ways too. - Exodus 10 Daily DEVO Then Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God. Do you not yet understand that Egypt is ruined?” Exodus 10:7 – What a perfect example of the blindness sin brings into our life. Whether Pharaoh truly didn’t see it, or just simply refused to see it because of his pride, his country was destroyed because of the choices he was making. We to need to open our eyes when we are in the pursuit of sin. Take a moment to look at the damage you are bringing in your relationships, your emotional health, and your walk with God. Is it worth it? Whatever temporary pleasure it’s giving you isn’t worth the pain it’s bringing to others. You think your sin isn’t impacting others? I challenge you then to have an honest conversation with the people who truly care about you concerning this. Maybe your eyes will be opened a little more. Just remind yourself today that sin isn’t worth the pain it brings. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 804
- But he said to them, “The Lord be with you, if ever I let you and your little ones go! Look, you have some evil purpose in mind. No! Go, the men among you, and serve the Lord, for that is what you are asking.” And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence. Exodus 10:10-11 – Partial obedience is full disobedience. Notice here Pharaoh said twice in this chapter, “Go!” The very word Moses was waiting to hear from Pharaoh, the command that they were allowed to leave. Yet God wanted everyone, young and old, and all their livestock to go with them. Pharaoh finally said go but wouldn’t let all of them leave or wouldn’t let their livestock go with them. Pharaoh partly obeyed and we see him experience the punishment of full disobedience. God isn’t looking for us to partly obey Him. In fact God despises a halfhearted devotion to His call. Whether you look in Revelation to how He wanted to handle the lukewarm church to the ways Jesus speaks of dying to self completely and following Him with your whole heart, God is clear in scripture on what percentage of you He wants following Him…100% of you 100% of the time. So where are you giving God only a part obedience? Meaning you see clearly a way you could give more of yourself to Him and the mission. In each day God blesses us with let’s seek to give more of ourselves to Him. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1893
