Colossians – Chapter 1

  • For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell. Colossians 1:19 – The completeness of God is found only in Jesus. Since this is the truth, our role needs to be sharing with the world that a search for God in any other place than in Jesus will be a futile search. Imagine me telling someone that their lost keys are on their dining room table, yet they insist to keep searching. They check the fridge, they check outside around their car, they call all the places they had been at for the last week to see if they had their keys. We would look at them in foolish wonder for they wouldn’t accept the truth that their keys were right on the table. Such is the foolishness of looking for God anywhere but in Jesus. Scripture plainly tells us that God is found in Jesus. God is not found in anything the world tells you to find it in, He is not found in any other religious pathway, and He is not found within ourselves. The fullness and completeness of God is found in Jesus. While you may not be searching for God in some foreign religion, how might you be searching for what God offers in something else other than Jesus? Are you searching for a purpose in your life from a career path? Are you searching for worth from a relationship? Is your identity being shaped by the voices of those around you? Remember the fullness of God, that means everything God is and God does is found in Jesus. However then you are searching, hear the truth…the keys are on the table. You can stop your searching for God, for purpose, for worth, for love, for your identity. All that can be found in Jesus. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3420

  • And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him. Colossians 1:21-22 – If it was up to us to get ourselves with God, all God would ever see is our evil and sin. We’d never have a chance to be with a holy God because of those “evil deeds” the passage spoke of. Yet it says we are now able to be presented to God blameless and good. How can there be such a change? Only because Jesus made that change. That’s the heartbeat of this passage. Jesus is before all, over all, and in all. It’s Him that make it possible for us to be with the Father. It’s all Him. Today remember how little this life with God relies on you and how much it relies on Jesus. Center your thanks today on all that Jesus did for your sake. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 547
  • For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me. Colossians 1:29 – Paul is sharing here how deeply he was giving into the work that he had been called by God to do. That his serving was a toil, something that took effort and energy to see a produce come about from it. He was sharing the gospel to the Gentiles and revealing the truth that God’s love and salvation was being offered to even them. While amazing and beautiful, this calling was exhausting for Paul and caused him to depend deeply on the energy that God provided for him. I was for sure feeing this yesterday while at camp. We have been going hard serving these students, and while a great work, it’s exhausting work. Even in last night’s worship, while my heart was full, my tank was on empty and I just stood there listening to the singing rather than being able to join in the praise. Know though in that space, God provides what we need to continue serving. There is no promise that it will be easy and no promise that we won’t find ourselves exhausted in the process, but we are told God will supply what we need as we serve Him. So be ready when the words, “Here I am, send me,” exit your mouth, for He is ready to send. Have confidence your God will provide in every step He leads you down.
