As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:9 - The apostle Paul is confronting a very serious matter within the churches of Galatia. Apparently there had been brought to the churches a “different gospel” than the one that Paul had shared with them, and the churches had embraced it. Let’s remember what the “gospel” is. It is literally the “good news” of Jesus Christ. That Jesus was sent out of love for us, died for our sins on the cross, and rose again to create the only pathway of salvation to the Father. This is THE good news, the only message of eternal life there is. So could this “different gospel” even be a different good news? Absolutely not, for apart from Jesus there is no forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Such is the reason Paul so vehemently spoke against this different gospel and cursed anyone who preached it. It was sending people to Hell, all while the true gospel was freely available to them. Let’s settle in our stance on the true gospel, knowing that there will be many who try to convince us to embrace a “different gospel.” Saying things like we can earn our salvation, or that we don’t need Jesus, or that we are good and don’t need forgiveness anyways. All are lies from the pit of Hell sending those who believe them to the arms of the father of lies.
