And all the people gathered as one man into the square before the Water Gate. And they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses that the Lord had commanded Israel. Nehemiah 8:1 - As a preacher and as a disciple who truly has found a passion for God’s Word, I love seeing how this chapter unfolded. We see the word of God read over the people, they listened attentively, and it provoked them to worship and further obedience. Yet see as well who it was that began this multi-day revival around God’s Word. It was the people of Jerusalem. They were the ones who gathered together and told the leaders to get the Law out and to read it over them. It wasn’t just some church leader standing behind a pulpit trying to get a distracted church to listen. This was a body of God followers so moved by the Spirit that they were hungry to hear God’s Word in their life. How then did such a hunger form? See the previous chapters for that answer. They chose to be obedient to the difficult tasks of the Lord and pushed through the oppositions that came their way. That obedience and faithfulness opened the door for the Lord to move and reveal Himself to them in ways like never before, and one way was through a passion to know His Word. However then the Lord is calling you to serve, know obedience to it will allow the Lord to begin new works within you and often a hunger for more of Him is a part of this. Serve faithfully, listen passionately to God’s Word, and worship Him with your whole heart. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3405
