And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation. Numbers 27:21 – Not only was the journey for Israel about to change from traveling for decades in the wilderness to finally into the Promised Land, but how they were led was going to change. In the wilderness, Israel received the blessing of a highly unique closeness with the Lord. God gave them a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire at night to follow, and this pillar remained with them the entire time in the wilderness. God also spoke face to face with Moses, giving Moses clear words of directions on what to do and where to go. While something it seems Israel took for granted, it was a closeness to God that they would never see again. For in the Promised Land things would change. No more pillar of cloud or fire to guide them. Moses would be gone and Joshua, the one to take his place, wouldn’t have the same closeness to God Moses did. Instead of talking face to face with God, Joshua went through the priest who used the Urim and Thummim for discerning God’s will. Yet while this was a massive change, the truth that God was still providing direction rang true. In our walk we too may find ourselves faced with a change like this. Maybe we learned about God from a certain person, yet that person isn’t with us anymore. Maybe we have to switch churches or our small group dissolves for some reason. These were your connection points to hearing from the Lord and now they are gone. As with the Israelites, know that while those connection points may leave, God hasn’t and He is still making ways for you to follow Him. Be willing to leave behind what God has removed and embrace the new ways He has given you to hear from Him. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3377
