So it was always: the cloud covered it by day and the appearance of fire by night. Numbers 9:16 – So it was always. Not many things in our life can have such a reality said about them, yet when it came to the Lord’s presence over the people of Israel, so was it always. During their time in the wilderness God decided to have a massive pillar of cloud be over the tent of meeting and at night this cloud would turn into a pillar of fire. The cloud would offer shade every day for the people in the unbearable sun of the wilderness and the fire would offer light in the darkness. And this was “always.” They could go to bed and know God’s cloud of shade would be there tomorrow. They could live during the day fearless of the dark knowing God’s light would be there with them. So it was always. While we can be in awe of what this people had, for it certainly would have been a wonderous sight to behold, let us keep in mind that what we have always is even better. We who believe and follow Jesus have the Spirit of the Lord Himself within us…and so it will be always. There is no night we will face without the Light of the World being with us. There is no heat we’ll walk through where the shelter of the Lord won’t be available to us to find refuge under. And this is your story because of Jesus, always.
