Matthew 21 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

And Jesus entered the templeand drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. Matthew 21:12 – We are now within the final week of Jesus’ earthly life in our readings, what we call Holy Week or Passion Week. In our verse above we see Jesus in a seemingly out of character rampage through the temple courts, overturning tables and running off merchants. Jesus, in righteous anger for the house of the Lord that was being profaned, sought to put an end to the sinfulness taking place where worship ought to have been happening. For a moment we see the happenings that ought to have been taking place within the temple begin to happen. Healings of those in need was happening and even children were singing the praises of God. While this was a beautiful sight to behold, sadly we have no indication that there was any lasting change or reform as a result of Jesus’ action. Very likely everything went right back to how it was the next day. Tables were put back up, merchants returned, and sin was allowed once again. This strikes a good question for us today, does the reform Jesus is creating last beyond the day within our lives? God may stir us on Sunday, but are we still stirred on Monday? We go to camp and experience the revivals there, but does it last when we are back in normal life again? Maybe it’s through an international mission trip or simply a morning quiet time, but wherever sin has set up shop within your life, Jesus is going to overturn those tables. How long though will it take before you put those tables back up? The aim for believers ought to be to never put up what Jesus has taken down. If Jesus saw it worth overturning, don’t set it back up. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3343

Question To Ponder: When was the last time Jesus “overturned a table” in your life?
