For you have kept the statutes of Omri, and all the works of the house of Ahab; and you have walked in their counsels, that I may make you a desolation, and your inhabitants a hissing; so you shall bear the scorn of my people. Micah 6:16 – To understand this chapter, imagine a courtroom. Israel is the one in the stand and God is the lawyer. God is asking Israel what has He done that had caused them to turn away from Him so boldly. Up to this point God had only blessed them, and any curse they had experienced was a result of their sinfulness. Our verse above reveals just how vile things were in God’s eyes. God proclaims that Israel was keeping the ways of King Omri and his son King Ahab, two earlier kings in the nation’s history. These kings went down as the wickedest kings is Israel’s history, performing the most disturbing acts of idolatry imaginable. This is what Israel was offering to the Lord as their way of saying “thank you” for the rescue and redemption the Lord had provide for them. Clearly the Lord was not pleased with this. As we examine our life and offering of gratitude for all the Lord has done for us, what do we see? Do we see a life that is seeking justice, loving to show mercy, and keeping God as the Lord of our life? Or is our life still looking a lot like our pre-Jesus life? Let’s remember the wonders the Lord has done for us and shape our life into a demonstration of deep gratitude for it all. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3308
