Then shall the young women rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old shall be merry. I will turn their mourning into joy; I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow. Jeremiah 31:13 – Wherever the posture of your soul is today, know God can bring the change that is needed. Within our chapter today we see Jeremiah being given the message he likely longed to be able to speak to his people. God had plans to restore His people and to bring them out of their sorrow and into joy. While these promises of restoration with God and a restoring of land was given to Israel concerning the “latter days,” meaning in the end times, the truth remains of what God can and will do. God can take us from wherever our soul is at a bring us the very blessing we need. If we are exhausted, He can bring rest. If we are empty, He can bring the fill. If we are sorrowful, He can bring joy. Let us remember though how such things were to be added into the lives of those spoken about in our chapter. The people would be brought back to the Lord and there they would find this joy, comfort, and gladness. In Him and within a relationship with Him would they find such things, and so is it with our search for such blessings. Joy comes from being with the Lord. Comfort comes from the care of the Lord. Gladness comes out of the heart that is close to the Lord. God’s plan for Israel was and is to bring them into their promise land again, and God’s plan for you is the same. Sorrow and grief is not your forever home with the Lord. Joy will come again and rejoicing will be found again within your life. When God draws nears, sorrow can’t remain and have its same hold on us any longer. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3261
