Jeremiah 5 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

Then I said, “These are only the poor; they have no sense; for they do not know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God. I will go to the great and will speak to them, for they know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God.” But they all alike had broken the yoke; they had burst the bonds. Jeremiah 5:4-5 – God’s judgement on Israel’s sin was coming, and in his prophecy, Jeremiah was speaking as if he was searching the streets for someone who hadn’t turned away from God. Even just one person who had chosen to remain faithful. He looks to the poor, meaning the ones who hadn’t been taught scripture yet, and unsurprisingly finds none among them following. But the great, the ones who have been taught all the scriptures, surely he’d find someone among them following the Lord. Sadly though none there were found either. What we see is that it’s not always just the lack of knowledge of God that causes people to turn away from God. Some have a wealth of knowledge the Lord yet still turn far from Him. The real issue is how much of a love of the world is within them. When the love of the world has grown within a person, this is when we see the straying away from the Lord take place. A love of the world and a love of the Lord can’t remain within the same person. One will always win over the other. Which one then is finding victory within your life? While there may be a vast history of church in your story, and you’ve heard all the sermons, the love of the world can still be what is leading you away from a devoted life to the Lord. Reaffirm with the Lord today that it is your love for Him that is what is leading you, not a love for the world like we see in our chapter. I love you, but Jesus loves you more -Mac – Daily DEVO 3234

Question To Ponder: What outcomes may there be for someone who allows their love of the world be what leads them in life?
