And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you, when each of you shall return to his property and each of you shall return to his clan. Leviticus 25:10 – Sadly we don’t know how much, or if ever, this was implemented by the Jewish people, but the commands around a Year of Jubilee would have been a dramatic shift in the way a nation handled itself from those of the world around them. Every fifty years Isreal would “proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants.” What does that mean? It meant that anyone who was a slave was freed. It meant that anyone who had lost property or lost a home was given it back. Every fifty years was a restart for the people and no one would ever permanently be enslaved and without their promised land from the Lord. Can you then imagine the “jubilee” in someone’s life knowing that they’ve been enslaved for so long yet soon they’d be free and be returned home and have their life given back to them. While we don’t have records showing this command was followed, we do know the world had the opportunity to experience a year of jubilee the day Jesus rose from the dead. Because of Jesus we now are existing in a constant year of jubilee! All who were slaves to sin are now forever free in Christ. All who once had eternity in heaven snatched from them have their inheritance returned and will forever be their future. Those who couldn’t draw near to their God are now free to do so. What a powerful truth to rejoice in! In Jesus we find the freedom and blessing those in Leviticus could only dream about. Today, if you’ve stepped into this wonderful life of jubilee because of Jesus, don’t settle in the despair that our world is seeking to bring to you. Rejoice in the freedom that comes only though Jesus. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3227
