Leviticus 14 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “This shall be the law of the leprous person for the day of his cleansing. He shall be brought to the priest. Leviticus 14:1-2 – Our chapter today covers the cleaning rituals for a leper that was cured of his leprosy. The process was highly unique from many other sacrifices and rituals outlined so far for the Israelites, and likely for a unique reason. There is nowhere given to us in the Old Testament where these laws on how to deem a leper clean were ever used. While given to the priests and the people, someone with leprosy didn’t just randomly find themselves cured. This was a fatal disease, so the idea of priests having a leper suddenly cured and needing to use these laws would have been shocking to the whole community. So when Jesus commanded the leper He just cured in Luke 5:14 to go make the offering outlined by Moses (the offerings in today’s chapter), this would have been the talk of the Temple and city. A leper was actually cured and they were finally going to use those laws they’ve maybe never used before! Maybe, just maybe, it was for this very reason alone God gave Moses these laws in Leviticus 14. So the people in Jesus’ day and beyond would see that Jesus could do things no one else in history had seen before and that Jesus was unlike anyone else in history. Jesus could cure the uncurable, and Jesus could make clean what no one else could. Remember this same Jesus is the one you are following and worshipping today. You are following the God who can do what no one else can and can heal what no one else can heal. He can even take the fatal disease of sin and remove it from our life. What a mighty God we serve! I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3216

Question To Ponder: How do you think the priests reacted in Jesus’ day when this leper showed up cured?
