For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. Hebrews 2:10 – God saw it fitting to allow His Son to experience suffering. That’s an odd phrase to dwell on, but it’s the reality that we see unfold within the story of our salvation. God chose to send His Son Jesus into this world with the plans of Him suffering for our sake so we could be saved. While God is God, and He could have chosen another way for sins to be covered and for humanity to be saved, the Lord saw it fitting to handle everything in the way He did. Why? I believe one reason to be so that we could begin to grasp just how deep God’s love for us really is. If the means God established to cover our sin was just Him snapping His fingers, then we may not understand His vast love for us like we do now. Also having Jesus experience all He did allows us to see that even when temptations and sufferings arise in our life we can remain faithful to the Lord. We have a Savior who has experienced all temptations and the deepest of sufferings. He then is able to be present in our lives helping us though such things when they enter into our story. So while yes God could have created a different plan to handle sin if that’s what He wanted to do, He chose the plan He did for a reason. For us to know His vast love and for us to have a Savior who isn’t oblivious to our struggles but is well acquainted with the struggles of human life. What a blessing we have that we serve a God who loves us enough that He was willing to sacrifice for us like He did so we could have what we have today in our life.
