And to which of the angels has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”? Hebrews 1:13 - In the first chapter of Hebrews we see the author immediately establishing a powerful truth, Jesus is greater than the angels. For many with a Jewish background this truth would have been quite shocking to hear. Angels were often seen as incredibly important, and while not worshipped, they were treated as much higher than humans. Yet this chapter is saying that Jesus is far superior over the very creatures they were lifting high. For the Jews, this would have been a needed lesson to hear, but for us, who likely aren’t treating angels like this, why should we cherish the truth that Jesus is greater than the angels? One reason is because our greatest enemy is an angel, just a fallen one. At one time the devil was a glorious angel in Heaven, yet no more due to his pride. Now he and all the other demons are on earth causing the havoc we see daily. There the truth of Hebrews 1 comes in, while the devil has power in this world, Jesus is superior. As smart, as powerful, and as talented as the devil and the other demons are, Jesus is more. When then the enemy seems to be winning in your story, remember that you have a Savior who is superior.
