Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Exodus 40:34 - Everything was completed. From the Ark to the coverings of the Tabernacle to the bases for the poles to even the linen undergarments, all had been created just as the Lord had commanded Moses to do. Now with everything finished it was time to put everything together and set up the tent of meeting for the first time. Once done we see a beautiful thing happen, the cloud that had been with them this entire year since they came out of Egypt settled on the tent and God’s glory filled the Tabernacle. Now this very expensive tent when from just another tent amongst the people to the place where man could meet with God. Let’s not think this happened because God was obligated to come down like this. Moses and the people’s actions didn’t force God to come be with them like this and earn them this sort of relationship with the Lord. It though did show their heart desired such a closeness with the Lord and the Lord honored that. Our holy actions today don’t earn us God’s presence or blessings either. Jesus is not in obligated to be with us because we’ve gone to church or read our Bible today. Yet when we do the things He has commanded us to do, it is a display from us that we desire a close relationship with Him and that is something He is looking for from us. So yes, pray, read your Bible, serve, show kindness, forgive, and go to church. Yet know such things aren’t earning you God’s favor. They are our way of showing the Lord we want to obey Him and we desire His closeness within our life. And when God knows He is welcomed in a life, He draws near. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3184
