They made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote on it an inscription, like the engraving of a signet, “Holy to the Lord.” 31 And they tied to it a cord of blue to fasten it on the turban above, as the Lord had commanded Moses. Exodus 39:30-31 – In our chapter we’re getting the final descriptions of the work being completed by the people of Israel in the making of all that God had commanded them to make. We see recorded in this chapter the making of the priestly garments that were to be worn by Aaron and his sons during their time of serving in the Tabernacle. The clothes were designed by the Lord and to be exactly how He commanded them to be. The piece discussed in our verse above was a golden name plate that would be worn on the hat worn by the high priest. On it said “Holy to the Lord” so that everyone, and especially himself, would know that is what he was. Set apart for the Lord. While I feel many of us would feel comfortable trying on the coats and the cool breastplate with all its jewels, how would you feel looking in a mirror seeing the label “Holy to the Lord” being on your head. Do you believe that? Do you feel your life right now isn’t being lived in such a way? Would you feel like a fake wearing such a label on yourself? 1 Peter 1 reminds us that the Lord we serve is holy and He has called us to be holy like Himself. What then would need to change within your life to where you see yourself truly set apart for the Lord? Maybe its setting aside some sinful lifestyle, maybe it’s showing more patience with people, or maybe it’s beginning to spend more of your day in His word with Him. Because of Jesus we have been made holy, but is our lives being lived out in a holy, set apart for the Lord way? Today can be the day that begins.
