He made the basin of bronze and its stand of bronze, from the mirrors of the ministering women who ministered in the entrance of the tent of meeting. Exodus 38:8 – The piece being constructed in our verse was the bronze basin, think a large wash bowl that the priests would wash their hands and feet in before coming into the Tabernacle to do their work. While we aren’t given any details around these women, apparently there was a group of ladies whose role was to stay around the entrance of the tent of meeting and serve. Why they were there and all the ways they served, we don’t know, but we do know one way they served from this verse. These ladies gave their polished bronze mirrors they would use in their homes over to the Lord to be used in the making of the bronze basin. This may have been for them a small sacrifice or something precious, but it does reveal for us a powerful truth. The more we live in service to the Lord the less we need the ways of the world to show us who we are. These ladies were coming close to the tent of meeting, where Moses and God met to talk as one friend talks to another. As they continued to come close and continued to serve, the more they realized the little need they had for these bronze mirrors. God was going to define who they were. In life, as we drift further away from the Lord, we begin to allow the world to shape how we see ourselves and dictate our life. We use the world’s “mirrors” to tell us who we are when that role should belong to God. Find yourself drawing nearing to the Lord and listening to what He has to say about you. The more you let God’s word be the mirror you used to see yourself through the less you’ll need the world’s mirrors within your life. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3182
