Exodus 34 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

And he said, “Behold, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been created in all the earth or in any nation. And all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the Lord, for it is an awesome thing that I will do with you. Exodus 34:10 – While hearing words like this from the Lord isn’t too odd when it comes to reading scripture, let us remember the context of what’s happening prior to this statement from the Lord. God had already established a covenant with Israel. He gave them His law, and that law was spoken over the people. The people then stepped into a covenant agreement with the Lord saying they would follow every word the Lord had commanded them. Yet not long after making that proclamation to the Lord, Israel broke that covenant by worshipping the golden calf. What though do we now see happening here in our verse? God is establishing a new covenant with Israel. Even though they broke the last one, and God had all the right to condemn and punish Israel for their sin, God relented and chose to show grace instead to Israel. When He could have let Israel stay in their state of brokenness with Him, the Lord chose instead to once again enter into a covenant with Israel. He would protect, bless, and make them great. He would do such awesome work through them that the world would be amazed at the Lord. How amazing is our God? How loving is our God? That when the very people that promised to follow Him completely rejected Him and worshipped a false god, He chose to forgive and restart things with them again. This gracious, compassionate God displayed in this chapter is also the same God we serve today. The covenant we are in with God today isn’t based on our actions, but on the sacrifice of Jesus. As God chose to stay with Israel God has chosen to stay with His followers today, despite their sin. Praise Jesus we have a God like we do! I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3178

Question To Ponder: Why should God remaining with us like this be something we thank Him for?
