Moreover, you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twined linen and blue and purple and scarlet yarns; you shall make them with cherubim skillfully worked into them. Exodus 26:1 - Here the Lord brings to Moses the detailed design of the Tabernacle, the original meeting place between God and man. We see God instruct in the last chapter how to create the ark and the other items inside the tabernacle. Then in this chapter we’re given the details of the tabernacle itself, from the design of the veil to the layers of the coverings. Something though I hadn’t noticed until a commentary pointed it out was the order in which the design was given. God started with the innermost piece (the ark), moved out (the other instruments in the tabernacle), then gave layer by layer from innermost to the outermost on the coverings. How God gave the details was from His vantage point in the tabernacle, inside to out, not from ours which would be from outside going in. It also reveals the way God works in the new temple of the Lord, us. He begins with perfecting the innermost part of us and works out from there. God’s knows the heart and mind of His people needs to be renewed, and once that takes place then the transformation out can begin. Praise the Lord we serve a God who isn’t about a showy outer appearance but has no beauty deep within. Instead we serve a God who perfects from the inside out.
