Exodus 13 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

“When the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as he swore to you and your fathers, and shall give it to you, you shall set apart to the Lord all that first opens the womb. All the firstborn of your animals that are males shall be the Lord’s.” Exodus‬ ‭13‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭- What we see happen here is the Lord instituting some practices that He wanted His people to follow now that they had been freed from Egypt. Whether it was the Passover or the Feast of Unleavened Bread or even the consecration of the firstborns like we see in our verse, all were given to God’s people not simply as another thing they had to do, but something to remind them of what God had done. In our verse we see this was to begin when they entered into the land of Canaan, the land God promised to give them. Yet would they really need all these things to remind them of what God did? Sadly yes, it didn’t long for God’s people to forgot all the miraculous ways God moved and even begin worshipping other gods. God’s heart was not just to save His people but to offer ways for His people to always have on their minds the mighty work He did for them to save them and create a nearness to Him. In our life with God, we too have parts of our faith life given to us to remind us of who God is and what He’s done for us. Communion, baptism, corporate worship, and studying scripture are a few of the key ways God has blessed us with to remember His mighty work in our life. For like the Israelites, we can easily find ourselves forgetting about the amazing deeds that the Lord has done. He’s parted the sea of sin and death so we could be with the Father. Hallelujah and amen, let us never forget the mighty deeds of our God that made it possible for us to be with Him. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3157
