Exodus 12 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

“For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord.” ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭12‬:‭12‬ ‭- Here we see the tenth and final plague on Egypt that finally broke the hard heart of Pharaoh. God was going to strike the firstborn in all the land of Egypt, and through this all would know His power. We see here the Lord say He would execute judgement on all the “gods” of Egypt. Something I didn’t note until this study of the plagues was how each plague uniquely showed God’s power over an Egyptian idol. Turning the water on the Nile to blood showed God was more powerful than Khmum, the guardian of the Nile. The boils showed God’s power over Imhotep, their god of medicine. Even blocking out the sun showed God’s power over their main god Ra, the god of the sun. Who was another “god” that the Lord showed His power over? Pharaoh himself. To the Egyptians the Pharaoh was a literal god in flesh. This final plague showed Israel, every Egyptian, and especially Pharaoh himself that the Lord was stronger than every god the Egyptians could muster up. What then needs to happen in our story that proves to us the Lord is stronger than any “god” this world can muster? Nothing in all creation is above our God and nothing can overpower our God. If then He is the one seated on the highest throne, if He is the one who will execute justice on all things, and if He is the Kings of Kings and Lord of Lords…why would we ever give our life to anything else? However you’ve given yourself to anything else, make the change today to worship Jesus and Him alone. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3156
