Scarcely had I passed them when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her who conceived me. Song of Solomon 3:4 - We find ourself again in a dream of the maiden, though she might say a nightmare. She awakens and find herself apart from her beloved. She searches and searches with no finding of him. Then, finally, she sees him. She rushes to him and refuses to let him go. Taking this and applying it to our life with the Lord, God is seeking such a pursuit of Him from us. Where we realize we are without Him, we seek Him, and we find Him. Then we hold on, refusing to let go. Why though is it important that we hold on? Because we have a tendency to drift when we aren’t actively holding close to Jesus. As I write this devotion I’m looking out over a lake and see the wind carry the waves quickly across it. Imagine a boat out on the lake, not anchored and not paddling to keep its place. We all know soon it would be far from where it started, and before long it would be on the other side of the lake due to the current. Know this world’s current isn’t going to keep you near Jesus. It’s going to seek to draw you as far away as it can from the Beloved you have found. How precious is the truth that we can never be separated from His love, but this world sure can cause our affections for Jesus to drift. So run after Jesus, anchor yourself to His word, pursue deep communion with Him in prayer. Hold on tight, never letting Him go. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3139
