And David spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. 2 Samuel 22:1 - Commentators are torn on when to attribute this song to David life. Was it later in his life looking back at all the ways God provided for him or was it a song he sung earlier in his life right after God defeated Saul? The reason it’s thought to be earlier is because this chapter is almost identical to Psalm 18, a psalm supposed to be written early in David’s life. While the question is a legitimate one, the answer I fall into is both. When David was younger and he saw how the Lord provided, he sang this psalm of praise and glory to the Lord. Then as he is much older and is able to look back on all the many ways God took care of him, he sings this psalm of praise and glory to his God again. My prayer is that we too will sing our song of praise and glory to our God again and again. That our time of praising God isn’t just something we did when we were younger, say at a summer camp. Or that our praise is only isolated as something we’ll do when we’re older. God is worthy of our praise now and again tomorrow and even again the next day. What David said of the Lord is so true in our story as well. He is our rock, He is our fortress, and He is the one that makes our darkness come to light. Praise God from whom all blessing flow. Praise God all creatures here below. Praise Him above all heavenly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. If God has saved you, redeemed you, and brought you out of darkness into His light, then He is worth praising again today. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3041
