Ruth 2 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.” Ruth 2:2 – Once the two ladies were settled back in Bethlehem, Ruth made the choice to go glean among the fields of those in Bethlehem. In Leviticus 19:9-10 we see the Lord set a command for His people that would act as a way of taking care of the poor and foreigners among them. The command was that farmers weren’t to harvest everything in their fields, and not to pick up all that fell to the ground. They were to leave the extra and the fallen for those in need to come and harvest for themselves for free. This is what Ruth was going out to do, and she finds herself in the field of Boaz. Can we pause though and see what this meant was happening in Israel? There was a harvest. Why that’s important was in chapter 1 we see the family of Elimelech leaving Israel for Moab because of the famine. Yet apparently people remained in Israel all those years through the famine, worked their fields still, and were more blessed than Elimelech’s family was. The point is Elimelech didn’t have to choose the sinful path of Moab. Sometimes when faced with a difficult situation we can feel as if the only choice we have is the choice of sin. We believe we have to take matters back into our hands and we’re done waiting on the Lord anymore. We say and do things that are not honoring to the Lord because we feel we have no other choice. What we see though from this chapter is there is also the choice to remain faithful, and that choice is the more blessed one. God will never walk you into a corner where the only way out is choosing sin. There is always a faithful path available, let us be wise enough to choose it. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3017

Question To Ponder: When in a difficult situation, what is an honoring to God action you can take?
