How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. Psalm 36:7-8 – Spurgeon shared a story connecting to this psalm…Once a father brought his family into their brand new, much larger home for the first time. His son ran through the house exclaiming in joy, “Is this ours father? And is this ours?” Never once did the son ask, “Is this yours father?” The son found joy in knowing that what the father had was his, and the father found great joy in seeing his son share in what was his. As believers, we too are children of God. One day we’ll be able to enjoy the fullness of God in Heaven, but even on this earth in this life God’s blessing and abundance is present. God’s steadfast love is present with us today. The refuge God provides is available for us today. The feast of God’s blessing and the river of delight is available today for us to partake in. What we see though in this psalm is the contrast between the wicked and the holy. Those still consuming and embracing sinfulness will never taste the goodness of the Lord’s house, but those who set aside their sin find the fullness of God’s blessing. What the Father has is shared with His children. All love, joy, goodness, and mercy is shared with His children. One day we’ll be able to run through the halls of Heaven exclaiming, “Is this ours Father,” but know even today we can walk the halls of this life sharing in God’s abundance when we follow Him.
