I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1 – While many of the psalms don’t have any sort of description about the psalm, when they do be sure to take note of them for it helps in understanding the fullness of the message. The description for this psalm is that David wrote this thinking back about the time when he was on the run from Saul and sought refuge with the Philistines. He though didn’t find the help he was looking for and had to act like a madman to escape the city. We see after this scene, David finds himself in a cave and God begins to bring supporters around him to fight with him. What then were the words of David after being saved by the Lord and being surrounded by support? “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” This certainly is the proper posture to take after being rescued and supported by the Lord, but it does take a choice on our part to bless and praise continually. For while the situations the Lord saves us from are intense and seemingly going to be our end, we can quickly forget the struggle we were in and forget to keep praising the Lord. Like David, let’s make that choice to keep blessing and keep praising. Let’s not forget the depths of rescue we’ve been given. Let’s keep the praise of the Lord for what He’s done continually on our mind and in our mouth. If it wasn’t for the Lord, we’d still be trapped in sin, slaves to the devil, with Hell as our eternal home. That though isn’t our story because of Jesus, and that’s something to be forever praising the Lord for. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2989
