For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah Psalm 32:3-4 – Within these two verses we see David experiencing something that we too may be familiar with. The guilt and heaviness of unconfessed sin. David is looking back and remembering the overwhelming dread and pain he was in when he was trying to hide his sin from the Lord. He kept silent when he knew he should confess, and the result was a season of God’s heavy hand of conviction on him. Likely you to can look back, like David did in this psalm, and remember a season where you chose to continue in sin when you knew the Lord was directing you to end it. You kept going, kept doing, and while you knew it was impossible to hide, you pretended God couldn’t see what you were doing. Likely you also remember the guilt and heaviness that followed over your spirit. You remember how the enemy sought to turn that holy conviction into shame to keep you far away from the Lord. Maybe all this though wasn’t just in the past but is a present battle as well. If so, please read this psalm in its fullness. The Lord forgives. When David broke the silence and confessed His sin to the Lord, the Lord forgave and the Lord restored. God didn’t mock him or reject him or destroy him. God forgave him, and God will forgive you. What brings joy to the Lord and causes celebration in Heaven is when even one sinner repents of their sin. So yes, you may have kept silent about this sin for so long and you’ve carried it with you for longer than you can remember, but today can be the day you finally leave it at the altar and move forward in the freedom the cross provides. Come to the Lord, confess the sin, and finally walk free of that burden and shame into the life with God He so longs for you to be in. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2987
