Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! Psalm 24:8 – The King is here. Imagine that being the words you heard from a family member as you are relaxing in your living room. The doorbell rang, they checked the door, and who’s at the door waiting to come in? The King. The King is wanting to come in, the King who is over all things, the King who all worship of the world is given to…is standing at your door. What would you do? The image given here in this psalm is the King of Glory, Jesus, is ascending into Heaven, and the gates of Heaven are being lifted so the King may enter into His glory. We then are left seeing such wonders and then wondering ourselves who could ever find themselves in glory with the King. For we know what’s in our life. Going back to the earlier example, we likely would be horrified to have the King suddenly show up for the house isn’t clean, stuff is everywhere, dishes are out, and pet hair is on all the chairs. How could we ever welcome the King into our house and be where the King is at? Only when the King cleans for us. Take a moment to reflect on this idea, Jesus, the King of Glory on the throne of Heaven, is willing to step into our dirty house to clean it up perfectly so we can existence with Him in glory. Without Jesus we could never have the clean hands and pure heart needed to be in His presence, but when His righteousness covers our sin, we find the doors of glory opened to us as well. Oh how great the love of Jesus is for us! That not only would He offer salvation to us, but that He would bear all our sins so we could be blameless before the Father.
