My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Hosea 4:6 – Starting in chapter 4 the whole visual example of Hosea and his adulterous wife is set aside and God begins to speak plainly about the state of Israel. The nation had fallen deep into sin, they had broken all restraints, and they were diving head first into all sorts of sin and worship of false gods. In verse six we learn a primary reason the people of Israel lacked the knowledge of God’s word which caused them to stray so heavily. The priests, the ones who were supposed to be teaching God’s word to God’s people, had themselves chosen to reject God’s word and were not teaching it to the people. When the teachers of God’s word don’t teach God’s word, God’s people stray to sin. While this sort of passage is certainly directed at me as a preacher, know if you are a Christian, this passage is speaking to you as well. Every follower of Jesus is to be a proclaimer of His Word. We are to share His word to our fellow believers to help them grow, and we are to share God’s word with non-Christians to help them know of God’s salvation. So when we look at the state of the world we are in now, would we say the world knows God and knows God’s word properly? Sadly no, and that’s on all of us believers. Today, however you can and with whoever you can, start sharing the truth of God’s word and make His word known to everyone. Let lack of knowledge of God’s word not be the case for the people that God has put in your reach. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2943
