If you have been foolish, exalting yourself, or if you have been devising evil, put your hand on your mouth. Proverbs 30:32 – Chapter 30 is written by a different writer than King Solomon, a man named Agur. Outside of this chapter he is not spoken of elsewhere in scripture, so we don’t know anything else about him other than the collectors of the proverbs deemed him a wise man. We see in one of his final verses a simple, yet oh so powerful, nugget of wisdom being given. If someone had been foolish, if they had been prideful and boasting about themselves, if they had been devising evil, if they had been doing all the things Proverbs up to this point had been directing people not to do…they should stop. Put your hand over your mouth, stop talking, and stop behaving in such a way. A very simple direction, yet life changing if followed. My desire is that people today acknowledge and recognize this can be their story to. Yes, they may have been foolish, prideful, evil, and doing everything scripture says not to do. That though doesn’t have to be their forever story, they can stop. Jesus is able to free us from the bonds of sin and the grip of Satan. He can break addictions, and He can change hearts. With Jesus’ help you can stop. Maybe that’s a message you needed to hear today spoken over your struggle with sin. Stopping is possible with Jesus. Freedom is possible with Jesus. Confess this sin to the Lord, bring the brothers and sisters of Christ that God has given you into this struggle, and lean daily on His help. God can help you put your hand on your mouth. God is able to help you stop; embrace His help. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2938
