Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law. Proverbs 29:18 – To understand what the passage is saying, let’s make sure we know what it’s not saying. Its not saying that when there are no prophecies begin given like we seeing in Old Testament times that we have problems, nor is it saying that if there is no visionary leadership being set that a people have problems. Prophetic vision, or your translation may say “revelation,” is referring to God’s Word. The words of scripture that have been given to us from the prophets and Apostles and disciples. When there is no proclamation of God’s words to a people and when there is no obedience to God’s word within a people, the people have nothing holding them back. While that sounds freeing and good, how often have we seen communities run smoothly for all when there is no law and order? Yes, without God’s word in our life directing us and even holding us back from certain things, there is certainly more freedom to partake in all the world’s offerings, but the one who is truly finding blessing in life is the one who keep God’s word. The person who is actually tasting freedom and actually experiencing the best life has to offer is that person who faithfully listens and obeys the word of God. For peace, rest, joy, and love is not found apart from the Lord. Such things are found only when we choose to let the Lord be Lord over our life and follow His ways. Do not be fooled by the temptation of casting off all religious restraints, such a choice only will lead to loss, pain, death, and Hell. God desires better for you than that, and He’s given you His word so that doesn’t have to be your life. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2937
