Proverbs 23 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding. Proverbs 23:23 – Solomon, the writer of Proverbs, has truly placed a high value on things like truth and wisdom. He has said they are better than the riches of the world and the most delectable treats. He has said that we are to pursue such things with our whole life, setting aside all foolish and deceptive things. Now he even says straightforwardly…buy it and never sell it. Truth, wisdom, instruction, and understanding are things worth paying the highest cost to get. While such things can’t literally be bought off a shelf at Walmart like flour or bread, such things can be sacrificed for. We can give our time to gaining such things, we can give up bad relationships, we can even give up our dreams to pursue what God is calling us to pursue. These are high costs, and we must be willing to pay it. While Solomon didn’t have this in mind when he wrote this proverb, we on the other side of the cross can take this idea of “Truth” a little further knowing that in John 14 Jesus calls Himself the Truth. No, we can’t buy Jesus, but we are certainly called to sacrifice for Him. To be willing to give up our sin and give up our wayward life for Him. For He is worthy of every cost, and why would we ever give up what we have with Christ for we could never find anything better in this world than Him! Pursue truth, pursue Jesus, and be willing to give up whatever cost may arise to have both. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2931

Question To Ponder: What is a sacrifice you have made to gain more “Truth?” (Could be for more wisdom in this life or for more intimacy with Jesus)
