Proverbs 19 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense. Proverbs 19:11 – Here we find a passage that has the potential to change lives and relationships if followed. First we see the pathway to becoming someone who is slow to getting angry…good sense. This is meaning the more wisdom we have the slower we will be to unleashing our anger on someone for something unworthy of such a response. We see the wise person is also willing to see the benefit of overlooking a wrong done to them. This is not meaning a wise person is content being a punching bag for people, but they are willing to see the bigger picture and the possible reasons behind another person’s hurtful actions. The wise person also knows how deeply they have been forgiven by the Lord and such a knowledge shapes how they pardon others. A wise person then is willing to not react quickly with anger and is willing to think clearly about a situation before responding. A wise person also understands hurt people hurt people, and remembers they too have hurt others and been forgiven, so they forgive like they’ve been forgiven. Can you see how this verse, if followed, can change lives and relationships? Imagine a relationship that anger wasn’t ever the first response and that when we mess up they aren’t about holding it over our heads but are willing to figure out how to make things right. This is the Lord with us, and this is the sort of life the Lord is calling His followers to live. Be wise, be slow to anger, be willing to forgive. The more we understand and cherish this is how the Lord has been with us, the more this will become our posture with other people. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2927

Question To Ponder: What has been something you’ve been forgiven for and that forgiveness affected your life?
