Proverbs 9 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff, you alone will bear it. Proverbs 9:12 – Solomon is once again comparing the life that follows after wisdom to the life that settles in folly. If one chooses to be wise, meaning contextually that they have a reverence for the Lord and a deep pursuit of His word and ways, we see in our passage that they are wise for themselves. Yet so is the opposite, if one scoffs at wisdom and chooses folly as their path in life, they’ll bear that alone too. Now is this meaning that our choice of wisdom or follow only affects us? That our choice to pursue God or reject God is only going to impact our life? Not at all, if you choose to be wise and follow the ways of the Lord, or if you choose to follow and reject the ways of the Lord, everyone around you will taste the effects of that choice. Yet who will be the one who feels the most impact of that choice? You. We must understand this choice of wisdom/folly, pursuing God or not pursuing God, is a choice that not only impacts our day-to-day lives, but it effects our eternity. If we reject the teachings of the Lord and we turn from His word, then certainly we will not find the peace, joy, and blessings that He offers in this life, but even more serious than that is we will miss out on the eternal salvation from our sin. Know then today this call out from wisdom to sit at her table and eat her food is truly a call to sit at the Lord’s table and eat of His blessing of life for eternity. Wisdom embraces the truth of the Lord, folly rejects it altogether. Be not wise in your own eyes, but instead fear the Lord and turn from evil. Answer the call that is being made from the heights to come and be with the Lord in His house and enjoy the life only He can give. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2917
