Proverbs 6 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers. Proverbs‬ ‭6‬:‭16‬-‭19‬ ‭- Giving his son some practical wisdom, Solomon outlines a few things that are detestable to the Lord. As we look through the list given in the verses, see that the final “thing” the Lord hates is actually the result of all the previous six. For when we are proud and deceptive, and when we shed innocent blood, when we plan wicked things against people, when chase after evil, and when lie about people…it’s going to cause discord and division between people. This is far from the Lord’s heart. He desires unity and peace among His people. Whenever His people are following His word individually, then collectively they will be unified. Yet when division finds itself within the body, you know the culprit is because something the Lord hates has been allowed into the body…sin. Whether it’s pride, deception, or something else that is sinful, you can be assured that when sin is granted access it will sow discord and division. We then ought to be actively seeking out how such things the Lord hates may be creeping in our lives and into our church family. Let’s us seek unity as far as we can seek it, and let’s silence the influence of things that break unity. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2914

Question To Ponder: Take these seven things and write down what is the opposite of each. Would you be pleasing to the Lord if you did such things?
