My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Proverbs 3:1-2 – And what might be the ultimate command this father is instructing his son to keep? To fear the Lord. To give honor and respect to the Lord and to be obedient to the Lord’s commands in scripture. All that this father is teaching about obedience and faithfulness to the Lord ought to not be something solely kept in the son’s mind, but ought to be kept in the son’s heart and kept in his actions. When we take seriously the word of God, keeping it not only in our heads but actually keeping God’s Word in the way we live our life, there is when the promises of life and peace comes. The life that will provide you the most peace within this broken world is a life that is faithfully keeping God’s word. The life that will last the longest is the life that has committed itself to the Lord, for eternity is promised for those who follow Him. So let us all position ourselves as the “son” in this passage. Know God’s word and keep God’s word. Understand that such an existence will be the only pathway to real life and real peace in this world. Many things will come that will test our remembrance of what God has spoken to us, and when such things arise, fall all the more deeply into His word so we never forget the Lord’s teaching. We have the promise and pathway to life and peace given to us in God’s word, let us then embrace that promise and follow this pathway. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2911
